Avignon, France, the picturesque city situated on the Rhone River, was a highlight of our South of France stay. Cobble stone EVERYTHING, old window-shutters from HEAVEN, and buildings/structures to ogle for days. We wandered the streets for hours, walked through the gardens, grabbed an inexpensive lunch to devour on the Opera House steps, watched a carousel whirl around and took far too many photos (because – let’s face it – those rocks were BEGGING to have a pastel-clad couple leap up and down them like crazy people). We spent a full day puttering through Avignon (enjoying the fact that it was a ‘free’ experience – we chose not to pay to tour). This is definitely a city (cliche as it might be) not to miss when Provence’ing.
